Whatever one may think of the feasibility of a theme based approach at the present stage: there is no denying that search engines where they are still concerned with generating relevant results to make their searchers happy in order to maintain or increase user traffic are quite desparate to cope with their inundation in data, continuously expanding spamming, etc. They have tried DirectHit technology (still being used by many), they have tried link popularity, they have tried cloaking detection and other spam killing approaches, they have tried paid ratings in short, the works.
A context based ranking approach not only seems to be the next logical step in this chain of strategies: short of all-human editorship it may well be the most promising of all. Seeing that searchers will themselves typically summarize and reduce their overall search theme by entering a few pertinent keywords or keyword phases, it seems logical to attempt to "revert" this process by linking keywords to bigger theme fields.
